The City of Paris has unveiled its ambitions for the future Place de la Porte Maillot. The 17th arrondissement district has been under construction since 2021, and the works are scheduled for completion in March 2024, before the Olympic Games.

As in many other areas of Paris, the Place de la Porte Maillot is undergoing rehabilitation and revegetation work. The City of Paris wants to open up the district and bring in the Bois de Boulogne before the work is completed in March 2024, just a few months before the Paris Olympics. In a video, the city council has detailed its plan for the second part of the district's works, what exactly can we expect from it?

Previously, the square consisted of a traffic circle. This will be replaced by "a new axis with three lanes of traffic and a bus lane in each direction, enhanced by a central median strip", explains the City of Paris. In addition, the planting of 1,500 trees has begun to green the area. The aim is to open up the square, re-establish the historic axis between the Cour du Louvre and the Arche de la Défense, and improve traffic flow for pedestrians and cyclists.

Porte Maillot will also be more accessible by public transport, as the T3 streetcar and RER E lines will both be extended and pass through the area.
