High winds: yellow vigilance in Paris and Île-de-France on Monday

Due to the low-pressure system 'Renata', Météo France has placed 3 French departments under orange vigilance for strong winds and 29 others under yellow alert. Paris and the whole of the Île-de-France region are affected by this yellow alert. Here's an update on the situation.

Beware of possible violent gales expected in Paris and the Île-de-France region this April 15, 2024. A " gale of brief duration, but which could generate violent gusts " is expected this Monday in the north of the country, says Météo France. As a result, three departments in France have been placed under a " vigilance orange" alert on April 15: Nord, Pas-de-Calais and Somme. " In these departments, west-south-westerly wind gusts will strengthen during the morning (70 to 80 km/h along the coast), but it is around midday that a sudden strengthening is expected, with westerly gusts of 90/100 km/h, or even 110/120 km/h in some cases ", says the weather service.

" At the rear of the front, a system of showers is setting in, with gusts of around 70 to 80 km/h, and very locally even 90 km/h," adds Météo France, which is also placing 29 other French departments on yellow alert this Monday, including Aisne, Ardennes, Seine-Maritime, Oise, Calvados, Marne and Eure.

What's the situation in Paris and the Ile-de-France region? The Paris region has not been spared by this windy episode. For the day of April 15, Météo France has placed the capital and the whole of the Île-de-France region ( Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Val-d'Oise, Yvelines,Essonne and Seine-et-Marne) under yellow vigilance for high winds.

According to the weather service, all 8 departments in the Paris region could be affected by this windy phenomenon between 1pm and 10pm on Monday. According to Météo France, gusts could reach 75 km/h in the inner suburbs, and up to 80 km/h in the north-east of Yvelines. In the evening, the intensity of these winds is expected to drop slightly to 55 km/h.

Because of these risks, the City of Paris may announce the closure of its green spaces and cemeteries. Stay tuned for more information.
