On March 4, the French Parliament met in Versailles to enshrine the right to abortion in the constitution. Following the adoption of this revision, the Eiffel Tower, timeless symbol of the capital and of France, will sparkle in an exceptional way at 6.30pm, coinciding precisely with the moment when deputies and senators will vote for the inclusion of voluntary interruption of pregnancy (IVG) in the French Constitution.

This initiative, announced by the Société d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE), aims to mark this crucial moment with a luminous imprint. A specific message is projected onto the Tower structure,"My body, my choice", accompanied by a special twinkle, to celebrate this historic vote. In addition, the Eiffel Tower will glow for the first five minutes of every hour after the vote, adding to the festive and solemn atmosphere of the event.

The Eiffel Tower has often been used as a backdrop to express France's support and solidarity during significant world events. In the past, it has been illuminated in the colors of the Ukraine to show French support for the people affected by the conflict. It also paid tribute to the victims of the October 7 attacks, demonstrating resilience and unity in the face of tragedy.

On Monday evening, the Trocadéro forecourt was the scene of a gathering where hundreds of people came to witness and celebrate this historic inscription. A giant screen, set up by the City of Paris, allowed participants to follow the inscription of abortion in the Constitution live, before witnessing the special sparkle of the Eiffel Tower.

This luminous act is more than just an aesthetic demonstration; it reflects France's commitment to women's rights and its desire to mark pivotal moments in its history. In the current context, where questions of rights and freedoms are more pressing than ever, the illumination of the E iffel Tower is a message of hope, progress and solidarity.
