Inflation, Covid-19... In recent years, the Eiffel Tower's operating company has suffered a series of setbacks. In order to replenish the coffers, the company's director has announced a forthcoming price hike for the monument.

The Eiffel Tower is the capital's most emblematic monument, and a popular tourist attraction every day of the year. In 2023, more than six million visitors climbed the Iron Lady's floors. These millions of visitors, the weather and the passage of time are causing the monument to deteriorate.

Since 2017, and until 2030, the Eiffel Tower's operating company has therefore been carrying out a major restoration campaign, " The most ambitious campaign in its history ", assures Jean-François Martins. The company's director told France Bleu that 380 million euros will be invested in the work.

This is a considerable sum of money which the operating company will need to raise in order to preserve this emblem of French heritage. In recent years, the Eiffel Tower's finances have also suffered from a number of events. The Covid-19 crisis , confinements and restrictions on tourism, strikes and social unrest in the capital have all led to a loss of revenue for the monument.

So, in order to make up for these losses, and to ensure an influx of cash despite the anticipated expenses, the Eiffel Tower is set to increase its prices in the course of 2024. " An increase will bring the ticket price to around 31 euros," says Jean-François Martins. This price increase must be discussed and approved by various bodies: " We are currently in discussions with the representative organizations and the City of Paris (owner of the site), to set a timetable which will be in the summer, before or after, we'll see how long the negotiations take ", explains the director to our France Bleu colleagues.

At present, visitor prices range from 29.40 euros (ticket to the top by elevator) to 5.90 euros (reduced rate to the 2nd floor by staircase).
