From thesummer of 2024, young train travelers have retained one notable advantage: the introduction of the Pass Rail, an unprecedented scheme that allowed any traveler aged between 16 and 27 to travel unlimited throughout the French rail network, on Intercités, Intercités de nuit and Trains express régionaux (TER) trains. For €49 a month, this Rail pass allowed unlimited, all-inclusive travel (with the exception of night trains, where a €19 sleeper supplement was charged), while respecting your budget and, above all, your carbon footprint.

Long-awaited for summer 2025, the Pass Rail will unfortunately not be renewed. In fact, the French Ministry of Transport has decided not to offer it, as it has proved disappointing: only a third of tickets have been sold, compared with forecasts, according to Ouest France.
If they can't travel all over France with a Pass Rail, Parisians and Ile-de-France residents can still take advantage of the Navigo pass to go away for the weekend, even if it's clear that destinations aren't as varied... With train fares on the rise during the summer vacations, long-distance bus travel (including day and night buses) can also be a great alternative!
