It's the big rail news of summer 2025, and it's not one we're going to dislike: this summer, it will be possible to reach Rome from Marseille... By night train!

Since its arrival on French rails, the Italian company Trenitalia has continued to expand: after offering rail links between Paris and Lyon, Marseille, Milan... The company, known for its legendary red Frecciarossa trains, is now offering passengers the chance to travel to Rome from Marseille (or vice versa), starting this summer 2025.

Attractively named theEspresso Riviera, this train will nevertheless require a little time: it will leave Marseille at 2:46 pm and reach the Italian capital just before 7 am. Departures are scheduled every Saturday, with several stops at stations on the Côte d'Azur. Toulon, Saint-Raphaël, Nice, Cannes, Monaco, Menton... In Italy, Ventimiglia, Imperia, Sanremo, Alassion, Savona and Genoa will also be served. At each of these stations, it is also possible to take the night train to Rome.

Ticket sales are scheduled to open on May 24, 2025: expect to pay around €71 for a ticket aboard this legendary train (for the complete journey from Marseille to Rome)!
