The end of Jennyfer? The women's fashion chain (teenager) founded in 1985 could be placed in compulsory liquidation this Tuesday, April 30, 2025, at a hearing of the Bobigny Commercial Court. An outcome feared for several months, confirmed yesterday evening to the 1,000 employees at an extraordinary meeting of staff representatives.
According to the CFE-CGC and CGT trade unions, quoted by FashionNetwork.com, management has announced the company's suspension of payments and the request for a two-week extension of operations. This announcement has been described as "violent and brutal" by the CGT, which denounces "the concealment of the procedure" and warns of a highly precarious situation for employees, deprived of a salary at the end of the month.
Jennyfer, which went into receivership in the summer of 2023, had nevertheless attempted a rebound. Taken over in early 2024 by two company executives, Yann Pasco and Jean-Charles Gaume, backed by Chinese supplier Shanghai Pure Fashion Garments Co Ltd, the brand aimed for a new lease of life: a redesigned logo, an expanded fashion offering and a more inclusive positioning. Was it too late?
The CFE-CGC union delegate confided to FashionNetwork.com that she had "little hope of obtaining any takeover bids". Only "a few stores at most could be acquired by other players". Today, 130 directly-operated stores and 53 affiliated partners are concerned.
Is affordable fashion made in Jennyfer about to bow out?
