Did you know? Every year, 300 million travelers take the RER A. All of these commuters pass through its 46 stations along this vital transit line. Given the overwhelming daily flow of passengers, some stations are set for major renovations. This year, one of the most important RER A stations is about to enter a new chapter.
If you often commute through or to Charles de Gaulle–Étoile station, prepare to see it undergo a transformation. "The ongoing renovation aims to restore the station’s modernity, firmly establishing it in the 21st century and opening it up to the future," explains the RATP. The project particularly focuses on streamlining the space, giving the station a contemporary identity, and expanding service offerings. In the coming years, passengers can look forward to improved information systems, enhanced lighting, and refreshed areas. "Charles de Gaulle–Étoile will become a station that is more modern, more welcoming, brighter, and fully connected," the RATP adds.
However, this transformation of the Charles de Gaulle–Étoile station is not without its impact on travelers. The renovation is leading to the gradual closure of several access points to the RER platforms.
Specifically, some access points to the RER A platforms will be closed starting February 5, 2026. Then, from April 1, 2026, the RATP plans to shut down the main transfer corridors towards lines 1 and 6. Several other projects are also in the pipeline for the coming years, including the redevelopment of the Friedland station and the final section of the urban corridor, both scheduled for completion by 2030.
