Planning to move to the Hauts-de-Seine and curious about the most desirable towns for quality of life? Look no further — the 'Association of Towns and Villages with the Best Living Conditions has just revealed its ranking for 2026.
Once again this year, western France maintains its top spot as the region with the best quality of life. Biarritz has climbed to the number one position, taking the lead. Meanwhile, Annecy has secured second place in the rankings, with Angers close behind in third.
In this top 500 rankings of cities based on quality of life, several Île-de-France communes stand out for their notable improvements — including Montmorency, Rambouillet, Pontoise, Maisons-Laffitte, and Chatou. But what about the Hauts-de-Seine department? Which towns make the top 10 where it's best to live in the 92? Leading the list is Boulogne-Billancourt, which also ranks 20th nationwide. Meanwhile, Courbevoie and Levallois-Perret have climbed to the second and third spots respectively in this departmental ranking.
It’s worth noting that the ranking also highlights Marnes-la-Coquette. While the commune ranks 36th within the department, it tops the list in the Hauts-de-Seine district among towns with populations ranging from 500 to 2,000 residents.

Note that this ranking covers all 34,727 towns and cities across metropolitan France, based on an evaluation of 197 criteria divided into 11 major categories. These include quality of life, safety, healthcare, transportation, social cohesion, real estate appeal, environment, as well as local finances, taxes, and amenities. "Each year, their ranking order is determined by an exclusive survey conducted with a representative panel of over 1,000 people: 'Quality of Life' (80%), 'Safety' (74%), and 'Health' (50%) once again top the list this year," explains the organization.
