January 29 is Lunar New Year, a very important date in the Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese calendars, as it marks the beginning of the New Year in these cultures! From Hong Kong to Paris, this event is celebrated with a rich variety of activities: parades, workshops, exhibitions... The Mairie du 13e, the arrondissement with the best-known Chinatown, organizes a wide range of events every year.
Once again this year, the 13th arrondissement is transformed to celebrate the start of a new lunar year. In 2025, we move from the Year of the Dragon to that of the Wood Snake. The festivities begin on January 27, with the inauguration of the street pavoisement, where lanterns and traditional decorations adorn the district.
The highlight is the Chinese New Year parade, scheduled for Sunday February 9. Dragons, dancing lions and colorful floats will parade down the Avenue d'Ivry and surrounding area, accompanied by traditional music and dance. The show attracts thousands of spectators every year, and the festive atmosphere promises to be one to remember.
Last but not least, the Festival du Printemps and the Festival de cinéma round off this rich program of discoveries. From January 31 to February 9, the Festival Allers-Retours du cinéma d'auteur chinois awaits you at Pathé des Fauvettes, 58 avenue des Gobelins.
To make sure you don't miss a thing, check out the full details of the festivities on the official website of the Mairie du 13e arrondissement and its social networks. A great opportunity to immerse yourself in Chinese traditions while enjoying a festive moment with family and friends.
These celebrations invite us to immerse ourselves in a rich culture and experience a change of scenery. In short, if you want to celebrate and learn about the cultures of the countries celebrating the Lunar New Year, here's a free program you won't want to miss.
