The Lunar New Year took place this year on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, but the festivities can last for several weeks. So it was not on D-Day, but in the week that followed, that Paris' benchmark Chinatown celebrated the New Year. It was a moment for us to experience an unusual and exotic moment, in an atypical atmosphere. The date of Chinese New Year is determined by the lunar calendar, so it changes every year.
The 13ᵉ arrondissement's Chinese New Year parade took place on Sunday February 9, from 2pm to 5pm, between avenue de Choisy, porte de Choisy and avenue d'Ivry.
The numerous associations paraded around in traditional costumes and superb make-up, and let themselves be carried away by the sound of cymbals and drums, in a joyful and good-humored atmosphere.
Now a tradition, several Carnaval Tropical delegations were on hand this Sunday. For the past ten years, the Asian community has been inviting the Antillean-Guyanese to share their culture, uniting their traditions through a love and passion for their heritage. At this event in Paris, West Indian and Guyanese groups assert their identity and emphasize the importance of transmitting and spreading their culture.
