The Paris City Hall in the 3rd arrondissement is celebrating the Lunar New Year, with a special focus on Chinese traditions, this Saturday, February 21, 2026. Don't miss this lively event promising a vibrant and colorful spectacle, all open to the public.

Le Marais invites you to join the celebrations for the 2026 Chinese New Year — or rather, the Lunar New Year — to embrace all communities in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris this Saturday, February 21, 2026. This year's festivities, themed around the Fire Horse, promise a vibrant and colorful spectacle. Although the lunar new year officially fell on February 17, celebrations extend around that date, as the Chinese festivities last for two weeks. This Saturday, the 3rd arrondissement will open its doors to celebrate this joyful Spring Festival and welcome everyone to join in the cheer.

This festive event is organized in collaboration with local business associations. The celebration kicks off in front of the 3rd arrondissement town hall around 6:00 PM and will last until approximately 6:30 PM.

On the agenda, a lively lion dance and dragon dance, performed by around thirty dancers and musicians from the Paris Lion Sport association, awaits you. Lasting approximately thirty minutes, this vibrant performance signals the arrival of the Spring Festival and, in any case, offers a joyful opportunity to experience a different culture that’s very much part of Parisian life.

Historically, the Lion Dance originates from an ancient legend dating back to the Tang Dynasty. It symbolizes overcoming evil and is seen as a gesture of prosperity and peace. For this reason, it is highly cherished by the Asian community as a festive way to start the New Year on a positive note.

The Dragon Dance is also a key tradition of the Lunar New Year. Rooted in the legend of Nian, it symbolizes bravery, nobility, and good fortune—tributes to the habitats that lit lanterns and set off firecrackers to scare away a fierce beast that disliked noise and light.

The renowned Chinese New Year parade that winds through the heart of Paris will be taking place this Sunday, February 22nd, starting from Place de la République. Don’t miss this colorful celebration early in the afternoon.
