To mark Nuit des Musées 2024, Victor Hugo's house in Paris invites you to take part in a special nocturne on Saturday, May 18. Mark your calendars, we'll be revealing the program that awaits you!

Calling all lovers of literature! The House of Victor Hugo in Paris invites you to discover the former home of one of France's greatest artists, on the occasion of the 20th Nuit des Musées, which takes place on Saturday May 18 2023. It's an opportunity to take a nocturnal tour of this 19th-century house, which immerses us in the life of the famous French writer, best known for penning such French literary landmarks as Les Misérables and Notre-Dame de Paris. From the Japanese-inspired living room to Victor Hugo's bedroom, we discover an astonishing, impressive home, reflecting the whimsical spirit of its owner.

This 20th edition of Nuitdes Musées invites Parisians, Ile-de-France residents and visiting tourists to spend a night (or at least a long evening, until midnight) discovering the museums taking part in the event, free of charge. Guided tours, playful itineraries, happenings, shows, entertainment of all kinds and for everyone... Discover these cultural establishments in a whole new way.

Victor Hugo's house is taking part in the Nuit des Musées with a night-time program, details of which are given below!

The Nuit des Musées 2024 program at the Maison de Victor Hugo in Paris :

  • Weapon phrases
    Saturday, May 18, 7:30 p.m.

    Performance with Alexandra Riss, artist; Richard Robin, epee fencing master and technical director of PUC escrime and PUC fencers.
    Demonstration and initiation.
    Jardin de la Maison Victor Hugo - Free admission.

    In the language of fencing, "weapon phrases" are a sequence of offensive, defensive and counter-offensive actions during combat. Could fencing have influenced Victor Hugo in the great battles he waged and the universal values he defended? With the activation of Alexandra Riss's Antiphona, which translates a duel into a musical symphony, discover some of the rules of this fascinating sport and the musical "phrases" it can create, and learn how to practice with the PUC Master-at-Arms.
