The Nuit des Musées is a major cultural celebration that each year draws thousands of curious visitors to museums and monuments across France. This Saturday May 23, 2026, the Museum of the Order of the Liberation is joining in: on the occasion of the 22nd edition of the event, it will open its doors to the public free of charge and offer us an exceptional visit to mark this special day.
The Museum of the Order of the Liberation was established at Les Invalides in 1970. It is dedicated to the order founded by General de Gaulle during World War II and to the Companions of Liberation. Its collections tell the story of these fighters who joined Free France and the Resistance inside France, as well as those deported for resisting Nazi oppression. Fully renovated in 2016, the museum showcases over 2,000 artifacts across 1,200 square meters, illustrating the journey of the Companions.

What if the greatest stories weren’t the ones from the movies?
For Museums Night, the Musée de l’Ordre de la Libération unveils a new program: an invitation to juxtapose fiction and history, and to convey the memory of these commitments in a fresh way through flash tours.
Before Maverick, Michael Scofield or Miranda Priestly… there were real women and men. They weren’t in a film. And yet…
Before fiction, there were the Companions of the Liberation.
