The Natural History Museum of Paris will also take part in Museum Night on Saturday, May 23, 2026. It's a perfect opportunity to revisit the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution for free! Here's a detailed schedule of this evening event.

For the Night of Museums 2026, happening this Saturday, May 23, there's no hesitation: head straight to visit the Great Gallery of Evolution at the National Museum of Natural History. You'll discover around 7,000 preserved animals, offering a panoramic view of species from around the world, including some that have disappeared or are on the brink of extinction.

In a magnificent building dating from 1877, we are greeted by the skeletons of the southern right whale and the blue whale, before wandering through the world of mammals, around the giraffe, elephant, zebra and other hyenas that populate the aisles of the Museum. Some of these naturalized animals are over 300 years old. They were brought back by French expeditions (from 1762 to the 19th century) to analyze vertebrates from all over the world!

Away from the city’s bustle, the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution invites you to rediscover the majesty of the animal kingdom. You’ll come face to face with 7,000 creatures, study their fixed gazes—sometimes mournful, sometimes wary. Watch out: they just might come to life when night falls! From aquatic life to the grand caravan of animals of the African savannah, through tropical forests and extinct species, seize the Night of Museums to (re)discover the permanent collections of this magical venue. Set in an architectural gem, the thousands of specimens on display make it a unique place to marvel, explore the origins of life, the diversity of species, and humanity’s place in nature.
