The Night of Museums, this European-wide annual event, is back. For one night, museums open their doors free of charge, offering a privileged chance to discover culture. This year the gathering is set for May 23, 2026. Among the Paris venues taking part, the Giacometti Institute promises memorable discoveries.
TheInstitut Giacometti in Paris is a cultural gem, nestled in the heart of the 14th arrondissement, dedicated to the work of one of the 20th century's most influential sculptors and painters, Alberto Giacometti. Housed in a former artists' studio, it offers an intimate dive into the world of the Swiss artist, renowned for his slender, expressive sculptures. Opened in 2018, the Institut Giacometti is a tribute to the richness and complexity of his work, offering visitors a rare opportunity to explore his unparalleled creativity.
The Institute's permanent collection highlights the many facets of Giacometti's art, from his famous sculptures to his lesser-known drawings, sketches and paintings. The staging of the works in this intimate setting makes for an immersive experience, where you can almost feel the artist's presence. In addition to the permanent collection, the Institut regularly organizes temporary exhibitions, lectures and workshops, providing a deeper understanding of Giacometti's work and its impact on modern art.
The choice of this venue is no accident. Nestled in a neighborhood that has long attracted many artists over the 20th century, the Giacometti Institute sits within a rich, vibrant artistic tradition. The former studio, carefully renovated to house the institute, preserves the spirit and atmosphere that inspired Giacometti throughout his career. It is in this space that the artist created some of his most emblematic works, and today it stands as a place of memory and creation, inviting reflection and discovery.
The Giacometti Institute visit is a belle découverte à faire for art lovers and anyone looking to immerse themselves in the world of an artist who shaped the course of art history. With a varied program and collections spanning a broad range of his work, the Institute offers a unique glimpse into Giacometti's limitless creativity.
