Music Day is back for its 41st edition in 2023! On Wednesday, June 21st, it's the perfect opportunity to enjoy unforgettable musical moments, often in unexpected venues. This year, Place de la Bastille will transform into a lively hub of dancing, concerts, and even an open-air theatre stage!
Since 1982, Music Day has become the flagship annual celebration of live music. Whether it’s or jazz, it’s the perfect occasion to showcase a rich tapestry of musical cultures! Interestingly, the concept was born from an innovative idea by American composer Joel Cohen, who in 1976 proposed creating a "Music Day" to coincide with the summer and winter solstices. This idea was later adopted by Maurice Fleuret, then director of music and dance at France’s Ministry of Culture, who successfully persuaded the authorities to bring it to life!
The City of Light rolls out its grand spectacle each year: concerts echo through parks, museums, churches... and even on the streets! For this edition, Bastille Square will host a special concert by IBNJ. Throughout the afternoon, audiences can enjoy a diverse lineup of dance, music, and theatrical performances.
So, we're heading to Bastille Square to experience a vibrant Music Day celebration bursting with energy!
