Feel like celebrating the Fête de la musique in style? Once again this year, you'll find a wide range of musical events to keep you on your toes and running to the four corners of the capital. Every year on the same date, free concerts spring up everywhere, offering a wide choice of possibilities. Squares and gardens, bars and restaurants, churches and museums... budding artists and musicians take over a huge number of venues, bringing live music to life.
The Fête de la Musique was born of the desire to give all musicians the opportunity to express themselves and make themselves known. Jack Lang, Minister of Culture at the time, and his team came up with the idea of a major popular event. The first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21, 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
