Good news for music lovers: the Fête de la Musique is back in Paris and nationwide on June 21, 2026! Quick reminder: the first Fête de la Musique was launched in 1982 at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture. That year, the ministry’s Department of Studies and Research conducted a major survey of French cultural habits. It found that five million people, including one in two young people, play a musical instrument.
Jack Lang, architect and scenographer Christian Dupavillon, a member of his Cabinet, and Maurice Fleuret came up with the idea of a major popular event to enable all musicians to express themselves and make a name for themselves. The very first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice.
This year, to mark the new edition of the Fête de la Musique, the Place de la Bastille in Paris will host an unusual Japanese drum performance for the public. Meet on the terre-plein du boulevard Richard-Lenoir, Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to discover this Japanese drum spectacle. Still relatively little known in France, this musical practice emits a powerful energy that is both visually striking and audibly impactful.
This original and powerful concert will be performed by the Japanese drumming school Tsunagari Taiko Center, and is scheduled to last an hour, so don't be late. It's an opportunity for the students of this rather special musical school to share their passion, joy and dynamism.
On the public side, young and old will have the chance to discover this unusual instrument that clearly invites travel, thanks to the pieces performed by the students. So, ready to embark for Japan? Meet on June 21, 2026 at Place de la Bastille in Paris to feel the vibe and dance to the rhythm of Japanese drums and celebrate in an originale way the new edition of the Fête de la Musique.
The Tsunagari Taiko Center invites you to an hour-long concert of Japanese drums—the taiko or wadaiko.
A festive, powerful, delicate, and joyful moment that will stay with you.
The sound that makes bodies vibrate, the choreographed movements, the momentum, the joy and the camaraderie that drive the players... In short, it’s not something you see every day.
Free and open to all.
We will perform on the Terre-plein of Boulevard Richard Lenoir, around the 14th, depending on space available on the day (in proximity to other groups).
