Great news for the many fans of the Fête de la musique! The iconic, expansive public celebration returns on June 21 with another lineup of free performances lined up across the country.
A reminder: the Fête de la Musique was created in 1982 at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture. That year, the Ministry’s Studies and Research Service conducted a major survey on French cultural practices. It found that five million people, including one in two young people, played a musical instrument. From there, Jack Lang, Christian Dupavillon, an architect-stage designer and member of Lang’s team, and Maurice Fleuret envisioned a large, people-centered festival that would give all musicians a platform to express themselves and reach new audiences. The very first Fête de la Musique kicked off on June 21, 1982, the symbolic summer solstice.
This year, the Fête de la musique returns to many parts of France on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with a varied and vibrant program. In Paris and across Île-de-France, the concerts are shaping up to be plentiful, including in Noisy-le-Grand. The Île-de-France town in Seine-Saint-Denis is once again taking part in the Fête de la Musique.
So, after welcoming Patricia Kaas, Cali, Nolwenn Leroy, Bénabar, Ben L’Oncle Soul, ZAZ, Kassav', Salif Keita, Chico & The Gypsies, Julien Clerc, La Compagnie Créole, not to mention The Rabeats, Véronique Sanson and Michel Fugain, who has the honor of lighting up this new Fête de la musique in Noisy-le-Grand? The Paris region town is lining up a fantastic day of discoveries across its neighborhoods, with a total of 8 stages offering 8 distinct atmospheres. To cap it all, don’t miss the grand free concert by GOLD scheduled on the Place de la Libération. It will be an opportunity to belt out beloved classics like “Plus Près des Étoiles,” “Capitaine Abandonné,” “Ville de Lumière,” “Laissez-Nous Chanter,” “Calicoba,” and “Rio de Janvier.”
