For over 40 years now, the Fête de la musique has been thrilling us every June 21 with a host of free concerts of all kinds. Rock, rap, classical music, jazz, blues, electro, metal, pop, French variety, zouk, reggae... Every year on the same date, the Fête de la musique puts a smile on our faces and gets us dancing all over France.
In Paris, many singers and musicians take to the streets to make live music resound. Taking to the sidewalks, squares, parks and gardens, museums, churches and even bars and restaurants, budding artists and professionals alike cherish this popular and festive event more than anything else!
A quick reminder: the country's first Fête de la Musique was held in 1982. The event was the brainchild of Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, Maurice Fleuret and Christian Dupavillon, architect-scenographer and cabinet member. Their idea? To launch a major popular event enabling all musicians to play and make a name for themselves during a festive evening.
And it's been a success for over 40 years now! Every June 21, music resounds from every street corner, to the delight of live music fans.
So, what’s on the program for Paris’s 2026 Fête de la Musique? While some events stand out as must-sees—the festival 36h Saint-Eustache and France Inter’s concert at the Olympia—the other musical options are also drawing big crowds. If you’re after gigs that let you travel without leaving the capital, we’ve got you covered. Norwegian folk orchestra, Irish rhythms, or even Japanese drums... Here are the music picks that invite you to travel!
