Getting around the capital during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will certainly be complicated. In an interview with Le Parisien, the Prefect of Paris, Laurent Nunez, announced that several metro stations would be closed for security reasons. We explain.

With the Paris 2024 Olympics fast approaching, many questions remain. Laurent Nuñez, the Prefect of Police of Paris, gave an interview to Le Parisien-Aujourd'hui en France on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. In it, he explains the various perimeters that will be deployed around the Olympic venues in the Île-de-France region during the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

While motorists and pedestrians will be required to present a certificate in order to circulate freely in certain areas of the capital, public transport users are also likely to see their daily routine disrupted during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

For example, several metro stations will be closed throughout the competition. " We can't have a metro station outside a protection perimeter with people who haven't been searched," explains Laurent Nuñez, Prefect of Police of Paris, in the columns of Le Parisien.

In concrete terms, metro stations within the red and blue perimeters defined by the Prefecture de Police will remain open. On the other hand, in the SILT perimeters, defined by the French Internal Security and Anti-Terrorism Act, metro stations will be closed and inaccessible to passengers.

" There is another problem with metro stations, namely the capacity of certain stations. Some stations close to sites will close for capacity reasons, because they are too small," adds the Paris Prefect of Police.

A number of metro stations are therefore likely to be closed to passengers next summer. For the time being, we don't yet know the precise list of these future closed metro stations, but the Concorde, Champs-Élysées - Clemenceau and Tuileries stations could well be affected by this measure. Of course, this has yet to be confirmed. RATP and Île-de-France Mobilités are expected to provide further details in the coming weeks.
