Bad news if you were planning to take in the sights and sounds of Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower. From January 8 to February 9, 2024, the top floor of the Iron Lady is closed. We explain why.

Were you thinking of taking a breath of fresh air 276 meters above sea level, while admiring the capital from one of Paris's legendary landmarks? Well, you're going to have to rethink your plans: unfortunately for you, the top of the Eiffel Tower is closed for works from Monday January 8 to Friday February 9, 2024. The third and top floor of the Iron Lady is inaccessible to the public for a whole month.

But why? As the Eiffel Tower explains on its website, renovation and maintenance work is carried out there every year. While the top of the Eiffel Tower is a very popular spot for visitors, it is also a place exposed to bad weather, such as sub-zero temperatures, rain and hail. Permanent winds are also particularly strong. At this altitude, " when the wind on the ground reaches a speed of 50 km/h, for example, it blows at over 80 km/h at the top of the Tower ", explains the Parisian monument.

So what work is currently being carried out on the top floor of the Eiffel Tower? Specifically, " overhaul work " to improve " visitor safety and comfort: sanitary facilities, staircases, floors, glass frames, lighting, radiators, etc.".

Maintenance work is also being carried out on the famous Duolift elevators leading to the top from the 2nd floor. This year, the aim is to carry out " modernization work on all the equipment to make it more efficient and reliable, more energy-efficient, more pleasant for visitors and easier for our lift operators to operate ", explains the Parisian monument.

However, only the top of the Eiffel Tower is temporarily closed until February 9, 2024. Despite this work, the site remains accessible, and visitors can reach the 2nd floor by elevator or staircase to admire a breathtaking 360-degree view of the whole of Paris. " All 2nd-floor tickets give access to the Tower's 1st floor," the monument reminds us on its website.
