The Pershing Bus Station, located in Porte Maillot in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, officially reopened on Sunday, December 15, 2025. This facility, which serves long-distance coaches like FlixBus and BlaBlaCar, as well as the Beauvais Airport shuttle, represents a significant milestone in the redevelopment of Paris's transport infrastructure. The grand reopening took place on Tuesday, December 16, in the presence of the City Hall of Paris, local authorities, the Transport Regulatory Authority, and the leading operators.
Closed in 2024 to accommodate the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, the bus station on boulevard Pershing has undergone several months of renovations. The site, which was previously used as a parking lot for tourist coaches, has been halved in size to make way for a construction site support base. Today, following significant upgrades, it has transformed into a sleek, modern hub for travelers.
This reopening comes at a time of significant change: the Paris Bercy-Seine bus station, located in the 12th arrondissement, is set to gradually close by 2030. This decision, announced by the Paris city hall in 2023, follows numerous complaints from residents about the noise and disruptions caused by the 5 million travelers passing through Bercy each year. Often criticized for its poor condition, the station's activity is gradually shifting to other locations in the city.
The renovated bus station now features 19 boarding platforms assigned to various operators. Travelers can enjoy three covered waiting areas, restrooms, ticket vending machines, and counters staffed with agents. Security personnel are on duty around the clock to ensure safety. From 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., passengers also have access to the shopping mall at the Palais des Congrès, located right next door.
The station allows for passenger drop-offs and pick-ups, with a parking authorization for buses for up to 45 minutes. For longer stays, a holding area has been set up at the parking lot on Boulevard de Douaumont, just a 15-minute drive from Pershing. This arrangement is designed to prevent congestion at the main site while providing greater flexibility for bus companies.
FlixBus has shifted part of its operations to Pershing, focusing mainly on domestic routes across western France. The first departures from this new hub kicked off at 7 a.m. on December 15, heading to destinations such as Brussels, Rennes, Caen, and Rouen. Meanwhile, BlaBlaCar Bus now serves five main regions from this hub: the Benelux, Brittany, Normandy, and the Southwest, with cities including Tarbes, Nantes, Lille, Toulouse, and Poitiers.
Approximately a quarter to a third of the traffic currently handled by Bercy station will gradually be transferred to Porte Maillot. This shift, initiated during the busy holiday season, accounts for between 30% and 50% of the activity for the city's two main operators—representing up to 2.5 million travelers annually. The Aérobus shuttle, which connects Paris to Beauvais Airport in Oise, has also resumed its services from this location.
The reopening of the Pershing bus station is part of a broader transformation of the Porte Maillot neighborhood. This area has become one of Paris’s key transport hubs, with the Metro Line 1, the RER C, and, since May 2024, the new RER E station designed by architect Jean-Marie Duthilleul. The Tram T3 line also now serves the area following its extension.
The iconic Porte Maillot roundabout has been replaced by a direct road connecting Avenue de la Grande-Armée in Paris to Avenue Charles-de-Gaulle in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Managed by the City of Paris and completed ahead of the Olympic Games, this development has transformed the area with new greenery — planting over 500 trees — and the creation of a spacious plaza in front of the Congress Palace.
The Pershing station serves as a temporary solution until the opening of a new bus terminal at Saint-Denis Pleyel by 2030. This upcoming facility is designed to accommodate most of the long-distance bus operators currently based at Bercy. In the meantime, Bercy-Seine station will continue to operate, undergoing enhancement works such as deep cleaning, wall painting, restroom renovations, and improved lighting.
After over two years of negotiations between the City of Paris, operators, and various authorities, the bus station at Porte Maillot has finally reopened. This development aims to gradually ease congestion at Bercy while offering travelers improved facilities. The Porte Maillot bus station now presents a convenient alternative, well-connected to other transportation options and equipped with modern infrastructure.
