Almost as soon as the snow melted, Île-de-France was hit hard by Storm Goretti during the night from Thursday to Friday. The Paris region had been placed on orange alert for high winds on Thursday evening by Météo France, before shifting to a yellow alert on Friday morning. Power outages affecting over 13,500 households and fallen trees blocking roads continue to severely hamper traffic across Île-de-France as of January 9, 2026. While wind gusts were less intense than in Normandy, where a record 213 km/h was recorded at Barfleur, the Paris region was not spared, with gusts reaching 107 km/h at Le Bourget, 105 km/h at Parc Montsouris in Paris, 100 km/h at Orly, and 95 km/h in Trappes.
After sweeping across Western France during the night from Thursday to Friday, the storm continues to severely disrupt transportation in Île-de-France this Friday morning. Falling trees on railway lines, damaged infrastructure, and strong gusts are making train travel challenging on several Transilien and RER lines right in the middle of rush hour. Commuters across the region are advised to brace for delays and exercise patience.
The situation remains complicated across the entire Île-de-France network this Friday morning. At the start of the day, no trains are running at Saint-Lazare station in Paris, directly affecting Transilien Lines J and L. On Line J, service is suspended between Les Mureaux and Paris Saint-Lazare in both directions, with estimated resumption around 10:30 a.m. Travel remains severely disrupted between Pontoise and Paris Saint-Lazare as well.
On the Line P, service is disrupted on several branches: between Meaux and La Ferté-Milon, between Paris-Est and Provins, between Paris-Est and Coulommiers, and between Paris-Est and Meaux. These outages are expected to last until 10 a.m. The Line L is also affected, with no service between Nanterre Université and Cergy-le-Haut in both directions until 9:30 a.m., and ongoing disruptions on the rest of the line. Find all the latest updates on Line L here.
The RER network is particularly affected. Services on the RER E have been disrupted between Villiers-sur-Marne and Tournan in both directions until 10 a.m. The situation on the RER A is even more severe. A tree fell onto the tracks near Champigny-sur-Marne and Saint-Maur-Créteil, blocking traffic in this section. Travel is currently halted between Fontenay-sous-Bois and La Varenne-Chennevières, and the rest of the line remains heavily disrupted. Tree removal teams have been working since early this morning to clear the tracks. The RATP has indicated that traffic will gradually return to normal around 10:30 a.m., while warning that further fallen trees could still cause delays requiring additional intervention.
The RER D and the R line are also experiencing disruptions, primarily due to a fallen tree blocking the tracks in Héricy. Additionally, the Cable 1 in Val-de-Marne remains shut down until noon, as detailed in our special article on urban cable car disruptions. We recommend checking the Île-de-France Mobilités website regularly for real-time updates on the situation.

The firefighters have responded to 84 calls since Thursday evening, mostly reports of fallen trees and damaged or blown-off rooftops, according to a spokesperson from the Paris Fire Brigade. In Essonne, emergency services carried out 85 rescues, mainly due to falling trees or downed power lines. In Paris, the emergency teams handled only 16 incidents related to the storm, compared to an average of 1,500 calls on a typical day. Most of these calls involved fallen tree branches blocking roads or damaged electrical cables. The wind also knocked over some trash bins and displaced construction cones onto the streets.
Regional emergency services warn that this toll may increase in the coming hours. Due to the storm, Parisian parks and gardens remain closed this Friday morning as a precaution. It’s best to steer clear of walking under trees until the weather conditions stabilize.
The orange alert for strong winds was officially lifted this Friday at 8 a.m. by Météo France, but Île-de-France remains under yellow alert. Here's why public transportation was disrupted starting Thursday evening. While the winds today are weaker than in Normandy or Brittany—areas where hundreds of thousands of households are still without power—the aftermath of the storm continues to be felt around Paris. The gusts expected during the day are forecast to be less fierce, but caution is still advised.
In short, if you’re planning to travel around Île-de-France this Friday, make sure to allow extra time and check the traffic updates before heading out. Transportation services are expected to gradually return to normal throughout the morning, but some delays and disruptions are still likely. We’ll be keeping an eye on live updates via the Île-de-France Mobilités website and Météo France to keep you informed.
