Paris and the Île-de-France region remain on alert this Friday, January 9, 2026, following the passage of Storm Goretti. Parks, gardens, squares, and cemeteries are still closed in the capital, and several communes across the Île-de-France area are continuing their safety measures due to ongoing risks of falling trees.

The Goretti storm continues to dominate headlines in Île-de-France this Friday, January 9, 2026. After a turbulent night, Parisian parks and gardens remain closed this morning as a safety precaution. City officials from Paris are conducting safety checks before reopening, inspecting the trees and clearing any fallen branches. Across the wider Île-de-France region, several departments are also keeping green spaces closed, as saturated soils from melting snow further threaten the stability of trees in the area.

A Relatively Modest Record of Interventions

The Paris firefighters responded to 16 incidents related to the storm Thursday evening and into the night — a relatively moderate figure compared to the average of 1,500 daily interventions in the city. Most calls involved fallen tree branches blocking public roads or damaged electrical cables. Some overturned trash bins and displaced construction cones also caused minor disruptions on certain streets. Meanwhile, the suburbs experienced a busier night: firefighters handled 84 calls since Thursday evening, mostly for fallen trees and damaged or blown-off roofs. In Essonne, there have been 85 interventions, mainly due to falling trees or electrical cables. Emergency services note that this situation may still change in the coming hours.

Antony keeps its parks closed until early afternoon

In Antony, located in the Hauts-de-Seine department, caution remains the watchword. The Bois de l'Aurore has been closed since Thursday morning following the discovery of two trees at risk of leaning or uprooting. Work is scheduled to stabilize the area. Other municipal parks, which have been closed as a preventive measure since 8 p.m. on Thursday, will remain shut until early this afternoon, Friday, January 9, pending confirmation from the Antony city’s Green Spaces Department. The affected parks include Square Marc Sangnier, Heller Park, Bourdeau Park, Raymond Sibille Park, Hortensias Square, and Fleming Square.

Seine-Saint-Denis: Gradual reopening begins this morning

In Seine-Saint-Denis, several departmental parks were closed late Thursday afternoon. Le Sausset and La Poudrerie shut their gates as early as 3:30 p.m., followed by Georges-Valbon, L'Île-Saint-Denis, La Haute-Île, La Fosse-Maussoin, Jean-Moulin – Les Guilands, and La Bergère at 4:30 p.m. After an assessment of the tree health carried out by eco-guards from the Seine-Saint-Denis Department, and depending on conditions, these green spaces are expected to reopen on Friday morning, January 9. If not, the closures will remain until all safety conditions are met to ensure visitor safety.

Aulnay-sous-Bois remains on alert over saturated ground conditions

In Aulnay-sous-Bois, the melting snow has saturated the ground, weakening the stability of trees and increasing the risk of falling branches. All municipal parks, gardens, cemeteries, and sports facilities were closed starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday and will remain shut until further notice, according to the Aulnay-sous-Bois town hall. Local authorities are advising residents to limit travel and stay alert to potential dangers.

Yvelines and Essonne: Preventive Measures Continue

In the Yvelines, the Marly Estate and the Gardens and Park of Versailles will remain closed until 12 p.m. this Friday, January 9, due to weather conditions. The small train service to access the Trianon Estate and the park is also out of operation. In Essonne, several towns have adopted similar measures: in Luce, the Carreaux playground will stay closed all day Friday, while in Epernon, access to the Peupleraie park and the Diane health trail remains blocked throughout the emergency alert. In Mainvilliers, the Château woods and all the squares, closed since Thursday at 5 p.m., will not reopen before noon on Friday.

It’s strongly discouraged to visit parks and gardens this Friday, even if they reopen. Saturated grounds, weakened branches, and lingering gusts of wind still pose significant risks. The safest choice is to wait until the weekend to enjoy your favorite outdoor spaces without worry. To stay updated on the situation in real time, check Météo France and the official websites of local municipalities.
