A security perimeter is to be set up around the Olympic venues during the Games in Paris. Special authorization will be required to access these areas.

In November 2023, the Minister of Transport and the Prefect of Police unveiled the broad outlines of the traffic arrangements that will be in place during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Access zones will be set up around the Olympic venues (opening ceremony, competition venues, festivities or athlete reception): restrictions will be greater, the closer you get to the venues.

Laurent Nuñez thus announced the introduction of a special authorization, distributed via a QR code, for access to these security perimeters.

On April 8, 2024, Gérald Darmanin gave an exclusive interview to Le Parisien. In this interview, the French Minister of the Interior explains that all those wishing to access these protected areas will require authorization, whether they are tourists, local residents or shopkeepers, motorists, pedestrians or cyclists.

On a platform set to go online on May 10, 2024, people wishing to obtain authorization will have to fill in a form, indicating their name, date of birth... The purpose of this information is to identify any dangerous people, known to the police, and prevent them from accessing the Olympic venues, where thousands of visitors are expected. " We will be particularly vigilant to ensure that no dangerous persons gain access to the security perimeters," insists the Minister.

Authorization will therefore take the form of a QR code recorded on a smartphone or tablet, to be shown at security checks before entering the zones. Applications must be made online. The circulation permit is due to go live a week before the Games 'opening ceremony , around July 20. " Once inside this perimeter, your freedom will be total. 45,000 police officers and gendarmes will monitor this zone ", assures the Minister of the Interior.

Note that you don't need a permit if you want to access the sites in this zone: if you're planning to visit a station, a museum, an auditorium... All you need to do is show your entrance ticket or train ticket.

" If you haven't registered, you won't be able to get in," warns Gérald Darmanin. The platform opens on May 10, and the process is free of charge.
