A jewel of architecture and craftsmanship, a magnificently preserved château, an iconic French landmark: the Château de Versailles is unquestionably one of France's favorite historic monuments, and a favorite of foreign tourists. It has to be said that the Sun King 's residence has something to dazzle everyone. From its Galerie des Glaces to its royal opera house, apartments, chapel and ornate gardens, the Versailles estate is a veritable treasure trove.
A visit to the Château de Versailles and its program

And during this summer of 2024, the Château de Versailles can add a new line to its list of achievements. The palace of the Sun King becomes an Olympic and Paralympic venue from July 26 to September 8, 2024. The monument and its gardens will host pentathlon and equestrian events (show jumping, cross-country, dressage, eventing, para-equestrian).
Riding, pistol shooting, running, fencing: these Olympic sports would not have been out of place in Louis XIV's time. During the Paris 2024 Games, the Château de Versailles will be transformed into a sports center. For the occasion, temporary stands and facilities are being built in the gardens and inside the monument.
There are a number of transport options available from Paris to attend these events. The first option is to take the RER C towards Versailles Château Rive Gauche. From here, it's a 40-minute walk to the Olympic site. A free Paris 2024 shuttle bus is also available for spectators.
Transilien offers three lines to the Versailles Chantiers stop: Line L (from Paris Saint-Lazare), Line N (from Paris Montparnasse) and Line U (from La Défense). Once again, free Paris 2024 shuttles will be waiting for spectators in the vicinity of Versailles Chantier station.
The events take place outdoors, so be sure to check the weather forecast for the day and plan accordingly.
