In Monsters vs. Aliens, Susan Murphy's life is turned upside down on her wedding day when a meteorite strikes her and she becomes a giant over twenty meters tall. Quickly subdued by the army, she is confined to a secret base and renamed Ginormica.
There she discovers other extraordinary creatures: Dr. Cockroach, a scientist with an insect head, Missing Link, a macho hybrid between monkey and fish, B.O.B., an indestructible gelatinous mass, and the gigantic Insectosaurus. Their hidden existence takes a new turn when an alien robot from space threatens Earth.
Confronted with an extraterrestrial invasion, the government decides to send the monsters into battle. The film then toys with the conventions of creature features, superhero flicks, and science fiction, turning a gang of confined misfits into a team charged with saving the world.
Directed by Rob Letterman and Conrad Vernon, Monsters vs. Aliens sits in the vein of DreamWorks’ animated comedies, with humor built on nods to genre cinema, quirky characters, and the brisk pace of a family-friendly adventure.
Monsters vs. Aliens may appeal to families looking for an animated film that blends action, humor and science fiction, as well as kids drawn to giant creatures and aliens. The movie targets those who aren’t after serious sci‑fi, favoring parody, visual gags, and high-energy ensemble fun.
