Review

J'accuse is an interesting feature-length film, with the merit of telling the facts of the Dreyfus affair clearly and precisely. There are few interpretations or romanticized visions of the story, thanks in no small part to the overabundance of available and comprehensive documentation on the subject, used here to transcribe the affair from A to Z. The film thus becomes a genuine tool for understanding the case, thanks not only to the angle used to tell the story - we follow the twists and turns of this judicial piece through the character of Picquart - but also to a more unobtrusive, unbiased direction, in favor of the narrative.

The film is also educational, giving viewers a better understanding of the political and philosophical stakes involved. The judicial twists and turns, the involvement of the army, the impact of Emile Zola's vitriolic letter to the President... It's all crystal clear! A precise vision of history made possible by a fair and respectful interpretation of the facts by Jean Dujardin, Louis Garrel and all the cast, among others. A cinematic object to be placed in everyone's hands.
