Two years after the events of the first film, Jason Bourne tries to live off the grid with Marie, far from the intelligence services. Their hideout in Goa is shattered when an assassination attempt closes in. Accused of a crime he didn’t commit, Bourne plunges back into a chase that takes him once again across Europe, through intrigue, clandestine operations, and fragments of a past he still can’t control.

This second chapter marks chiefly a shift in the franchise’s style. With Paul Greengrass, the saga adopts a drier, more mobile, more immersive form, based on handheld camera work, tight editing, and more direct confrontations. This approach, already evident in the director’s work on Bloody Sunday, has largely helped redefine 2000s espionage action cinema, moving away from a more polished model to favor urgency and pursuit.

The Death in the Flesh also unfolds a more inward dimension than the first film. Bourne’s flight is no longer solely about survival: it runs through guilt, grief, and the drive to understand what has been done in his name. This shift gives the story a heavier tone, while reinforcing the saga’s political thread around the CIA’s opaque operations and their human consequences.

Filming took place across India, Germany, and Russia, with Berlin at the heart of the narrative and multiple urban scenes that shape the movie’s visual identity. Matt Damon’s physical training was also intensified to match a shift toward tougher, more immediate action. Prime Video is reintroducing the installment that helped cement the Bourne trilogy’s visual and narrative grammar.
