One hell of a trailer! That's what Disney has come up with with the first trailer for Cruella, the origin story of the iconic villain of 101 Dalmatians, to be shown on M6 on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 9.10pm. We follow the story ofEstella Devil, the future Cruella in the making, and her social ascent full of eccentricity and devastating madness.
As for the cast, who better thanEmma Stone to play the young Cruella, whose intonations and phrasing we can hear in the trailer already make us want to see more. Other big-name stars include Emma Thompson(Men in Black International, Last Christmas...), Mark Strong(Shazam!, 1917...), Emily Beecham(Berlin, I Love You, Little Joe...) and Dev Patel(Attack in Mumbai, The Personal History of David Copperfield...). In the meantime, we've also released the first poster for the film.
London, 70s, at the height of the punk rock movement. Atalented con artist, Estella isdetermined to make a name for herself in the fashion world. She befriends two young rascals who appreciate her hustling skills, and with themleads a life of crime on the streets of London. One day, her creations come to the attention of theBaroness von Hellman, a leading fashion figure, terribly chic and horribly snobbish. But their relationship triggers a series of revelations that lead Estella to let her dark side take over, to the point of giving birth to the ruthless Cruella, a brilliant young woman thirsting for fashion and revenge...
What if Cruella wasn't so evil after all? That's what Disney Studios is trying to prove in Craig Gillespie's rock-and-roll adaptation.
Cruella plunges us into the punk rock movement of 70s London. We love the sumptuous sets, fabulous costumes and rhythmic soundtrack!
If Emma Stone seemed a little too polished to play the villain, the actress devotes herself body and soul to Cruella d'Enfer, and not for a second do we doubt the sincerity of her performance.
In short, Cruella is a captivating, dynamic film in which there's never a dull moment!
