The Cannes Film Festival is back this year for its 2022 edition, which takes place from May 17 to 28 on the famous Croisette in Cannes (06). This year, the French actor Vincent Lindon has been chosen to chair the jury of the festival.
The actor, who won the Best Actor Award in 2015 for his role in Titanium, will therefore have the heavy task of awarding the Palme d'Or to one of the 21 films in the Competition on Saturday, May 28, 2022 after the traditional closing ceremony. The last French personality to hold this prestigious position was Isabelle Huppert in 2009.
During the previous editions of the Cannes Film Festival, it was quite frequent that French artists held this role during the celebration editions, such as Yves Montand in 1987 for the 40th anniversary, Gérard Depardieu in 1992 for the 45th Festival or Isabelle Adjani in 1997 for the 50th anniversary. It is therefore not surprising to find a Frenchman at the head of the jury of this 75th edition.
In a statement, Vincent Lindon expresses his gratitude for having been selected. "It is a great honor and a great pride to be entrusted, in the midst of the tumult of the multiple events we are going through in the world, the splendid and heavy task of presiding over the Jury of the 75th Cannes International Film Festival .
And he says:"With my Jury, we will strive to take the best possible care of the films of the future, which all carry the same secret hope, of courage, loyalty and freedom; whose mission is to move the greatest number of women and men by speaking to them of their wounds and their common joys. Culture helps the human soul to rise and to hope for tomorrow."
Vincent Lindon will be assisted in his mission by a jury composed of eight other personalities of the 7th art from various parts of the world ranging from Norway to Italy, the United States and India.
