Original title: House of Gucci

Adapted from Sara Gay Forden's book, The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, the film traces the rise of Patrizia Reggiani within the Gucci clan, up to the rupture that ends with Maurizio Gucci's murder in 1995. The narrative unfolds amid family rivalries, competing ambitions, and a reshaping of power as the brand, already globally renowned, navigates a period of internal tensions.
The feature film rests on a notably dense cast. Maurizio Gucci is portrayed by Adam Driver, seen notably in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Annette, while Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani after already making her mark in cinema with A Star Is Born. By their side, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto, Jack Huston and Camille Cottin form the different strands of a family where alliances evolve at the pace of inheritances and interests.
House of Gucci also sits in Ridley Scott’s recent streak of versatility, a filmmaker known for juggling epic history, science fiction, and war footage. Here he shifts toward something more melodramatic, fueled by clan politics, the staging of social status, and turning a sensational case into a family tragedy. The project had been circulating in Hollywood for a long time, with several names circulating before filming actually started.
Most of the production was shot in Italy, around Rome, Milan, Lake Como and the Dolomites, with interiors filmed at Cinecittà. This location work gives the film a visual texture closely tied to power centers, villas, boutiques and the fashion shows that accompany the brand’s story. The costumes, cars, sets and makeup help recreate a period spanning the 1970s to the 1990s.
Our take on House of Gucci:
Between showiness and glitter, House of Gucci dives into the world of intrigues and betrayals that shaped the daily life of Gucci heirs up to Maurizio Gucci's death in March 1995.
Ridley Scott leans on a striking cast, but if there is one name to remember in this biopic, it is Jared Leto, who plays the eccentric cousin Paolo. The character, lacking real creative talent, becomes one of the engines of the film's most outrageous dimension, blending clumsiness, bad taste and family rivalry.
Lady Gaga fully commits to Patrizia Reggiani, who became Mrs. Gucci after marrying Maurizio. The film presents her as an ambitious woman, obsessed with social ascent, wealth and power, whose calculations increasingly tilt the family balance.
Beyond the actors’ performances, Ridley Scott reconstructs decades through staging attentive to style, color and the soundtrack, with real work on outward signs of wealth and the evolution of the Gucci house’s image.
The film favors power drama and the family chronicle over pure crime investigation. It is this tension between passion, greed and intimate collapse that underpins the whole.
The film also sparked mixed reactions to its portrayal of the Gucci family, with some heirs contesting certain characterizations. On the institutional reception front, House of Gucci notably earned Lady Gaga a Golden Globes nomination, and the makeup and hair work was recognized at several ceremonies, including the Oscars and the BAFTAs.
