South Korea's most cult filmmaker came to Cannes for the fourth time with "Decision to Leave", which won the Director's Award at this 75th edition. The film will be released in theaters on June 29, 2022.

After narrowly missing the Palme d'Or in 2004 with Oldboy (Grand Prix of the Jury) and then winning the Director's Prize with Thirst in 2009, the Korean Park Chan-Wook presented for the fourth time a film at the Cannes Film Festival. With great success, since Decision to Leave also won the Director's Award, this Saturday, May 28, during the closing ceremony of this 75th edition. It is one of the next Cannes films to be discovered in theaters, since it will be released on June 29.

With this new opus, the filmmaker takes up a theme that is dear to him, the black thriller. We discover the inspector Hae-Joon, who investigates the death of a man who fell from the top of a mountain. He soon begins to suspect the widow of the deceased, Seo-rae, but his attraction to her could jeopardize his investigation. Divided into two different parts, the film is fascinating because of its manipulation games, which he already explored in Mademoiselle, his previous film.

A poisonousthriller, thework is complex, as the relationship between Hae-Joon and Seo-rae is full of mysteries. The whole is sublimated by the direction of Park Chan-Wook, who largely deserves his prize at Cannes. The Korean revisits the myth of the femme fatale and surprises until the end, until the heartbreaking final scene. Contrary to his habit, the filmmaker does not deploy great flamboyance, but remains in the subtlety, which is why the viewer may remain on the side. But if you manage to get interested, you will come out completely charmed!
