And that's two for Ruben Östlund who just won another Palme d'Or. With Sans Filtre (Triangle of Sadness), the Swedish filmmaker depicts in his own way what he knows best: the current society. While in his previous film The Square, which won gold at Cannes five years ago, he drew the contours of the contemporary art world to better explode them, Östlund tackles this time another big piece, the class struggle and indeed capitalism. Emetophobic friends, go the other way, this reversal will be done withhectoliters of vomit and diarrhea to excess, or it will not be done!

Trailer of Sans Filtre:

In three acts, Sans Filtre sifts through this society that is going badly, crossed byinequalities between the super-rich, who are always richer, and the poor, who are always poorer; but also by misunderstandings in front of the generation Y, fed with social networks and appearances. We follow theinfluencer Yaya (Charlbi Dean Kriek) and her helpful Instagram husband and fading model, Carl (Harris Dickinson), who take part in an all-expenses-paid five-star cruise thanks to her career as a pretty sandwich lady.

Everything quickly turns into a grotesque and outrageous farce, with hilarious moments - including a verbal joust on the background of alcohol and theInternational between a disillusioned American Marxist captain played by Woody Harrelson and a Russian oligarch who is necessarily a capitalist and who made his fortune by "selling shit" - in reality, chemical fertilizer.

From then on, there are some seriously enjoyable scenes, as glasses clash on the tables, foreheads bead with sweat and the storm rages outside and inside - stomachs and intestines will not resist. But the film runs out of steam and loses its superbness when it switches to its Koh-Lantaesque part, which would have undeniably deserved to be shortened but which will have, all the same, had the merit of definitively reshuffling the cards and of durably installing this matriarchal neo-society in which a packet of pretzels crystallizes the new social status of the protagonists.

Cynical and funny to the point of disgust, although a little uneven, Triangle of Sadness is a Palme d'Or that will not be unanimously acclaimed, but that will leave its mark on people's minds - and stomachs.
