Directed by Ida Techer and Luc Bricault, written by Ida Techer and Julie Manoukian, the film stars Mathilde Seigner, Bernard Le Coq, and Anne Benoit. Released in French theaters on December 28, 2022, it will be broadcast on France 2 on November 23, 2025, at 9:10 p.m.
The story follows Alex, a singer in search of professional momentum, who agrees to coach a choir of retirees. She discovers a group driven by unexpected energy and animated by a common desire: to sing rock music. Their rejection of nursery rhymes and their ambition force Alex to quickly adapt to this unpredictable collective dynamic.
The group's progress is based on musical work carried out in an environment where each member claims freedom of expression. Alex must reconcile the choir's expectations with her own doubts, shaping a trajectory focused on transformation and overall cohesion.
The film is inspired by the group Salt and Pepper, a choir created in 2010 in Dunkirk. The group has made a name for itself on stage and in the media with a rock repertoire. According to the production, 14 choir members were selected for the shoot from among the 38 members, while the others appear as extras. The film is based on live vocals, filmed during the pandemic under challenging logistical conditions. Ida Techer drew on her personal experience and a report on the group to develop the project. The collaboration with Luc Bricault was the result of a desire to co-direct a first feature film.
The tone is inspired by British social comedies, particularly in terms of the musical nature and situations rooted in a local community. The film is aimed at audiences who enjoy musical stories, collective journeys, and comedies centered on group energy.
