Accustomed to sharp narratives, made to provoke discomfort ("Requiem for a Dream," "Black Swan," "Mother!"), Darren Aronofsky returns with "The Whale," a drama about a morbidly obese man, reclusive in his home, who tries to reconnect with his daughter. The film won the Oscar for Best Actor.

A new film by Darren Aronofsky is always a small event in itself. Six years after Mother! his last film, the director behind Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream or The Fountain returns with The Whale, a mysterious feature film selected at the Venice Film Festival and nominated for three Oscars (Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Makeup). This Sunday, March 12, Brendan Fraser won theOscar for best actor for the film.

The trailer of The Whale

In the cast of this drama to be seen in theaters from March 8, we find Brendan Fraser, who signs here an unexpected return. The actor, whose popularity had exploded at the end of the 2000s with the Mummy films, had disappeared from movie screens, and we saw him only in second or third rate films. He plays Charlie, an overweight, reclusive English teacher who tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter for a last chance at redemption. The latter is played by Sadie Sink, best known for her role as Max from Stranger Things.
