Presented at ACID, État limite is now playing at the Champs-Elysées Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix. Nicolas Peduzzi's documentary explores the challenges facing the public hospital system and psychiatry.

Nicolas Peduzzi 's documentary État limite, was presented atACID, and the film continues its festival tour, now including the Champs-Elysées Film Festival, where it is in competition. The film takes place at Hôpital Beaujon in Clichy, where Jamal Abdel-Kader, the hospital's sole psychiatrist, attempts to restore humanity to his patients, despite the performance constraints and lack of resources affecting the public hospital. Parisian audiences will be able to preview this documentary on Thursday June 22 (at Publicis) and Saturday June 24 (at Lincoln), as part of the festival.

État limite highlights the difficulties faced by healthcare professionals, particularly in the field of psychiatry. The documentary follows Dr. Jamal Abdel-Kader in his daily struggle to offer the best possible care to his patients, while questioning how to provide good care in a troubled institution.

Daily life in this hospital is not easy for this psychiatrist, whose work is invaluable and, above all, unquantifiable. And therefore, impossible to determine its profitability. This is where the filmmaker achieves his goal of using images to show the disintegration of the public hospital, caused by lack of resources and constant understaffing. From that moment on, the film's aim is to turn our stomachs inside out, showing us the raw horror of everyday life. The hospital is shown as a chaotic place, right from the opening scene.

Nicolas Peduzzi presents a rather pessimistic vision, but how could we not be after spending two years at the side of Jamal, this perfectly-spoken psychiatrist with a sharp tongue, especially when it comes to exposing the shortcomings he suffers. It's an exhausting film, both morally and physically, because what it shows is so hard, especially when the camera is right up close to the patients, who are at the heart of it all. But it's obviously fascinating.
