The municipal cinema L’Alcazar in Asnières-sur-Seine has earned the international Blue Ribbon label from Boxoffice Pro. An accolade that recognizes its LG LED screen, its art-house programming, and its overall cinema experience.

Located in Asnières-sur-Seine, right next to the SNCF station, L'Alcazar has historically been the Paris suburban region’s first arthouse cinema, officially recognized as such by the National Centre for Cinema in 1962. Following major renovation work in 2021—from the lobby to the seating and upgrades to accessibility (PMR)—the municipal cinema continues to evolve. Already noted for its room equipped with an LG LED screen, it has just earned the international Blue Ribbon label, awarded by Boxoffice Pro to venues distinguished by the overall quality of the experience.

L’Alcazar is part of the first wave of this label’s launch, after already being honored in Las Vegas at the CinemaCon 2026. The accolade highlights several aspects of the venue: its technical setup, its comfort, its Art et Essai programming, its outreach to young audiences, and its affordable pricing policy, according to information released by the City of Asnières-sur-Seine.

A few words on the tech for image enthusiasts: the LG LED screen is installed in the main hall, Hall 1, when booking on the cinema's official site, which has 300 seats. It measures 10 meters wide and comprises 192 LED tiles, delivering visual quality that surpasses many traditional projection systems.

Although this method already existed with other equipment manufacturers, this LED screen, touted as the first of its kind from LG installed in a French cinema, stands out for its deep blacks and high brightness. The brightness can reach 300 cd/m², far beyond the usual standard of 48 cd/m². This feature broadens the range of contrasts and even makes it possible to watch a film with the lights on. The audio system with the CP950 Dolby processor includes speakers mounted above and below the screen, delivering sound at a height close to that of a traditional auditorium.

LG's LED display would also offer energy efficiency benefits: it would consume less power than a xenon projector, generate less heat, and thereby reduce the need for ventilation.

We first came across this installation in May 2023, during a screening of the film The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan. Before the film, a short animated program highlighted the color palette and the precision of the image, two aspects particularly noticeable on this kind of screen.

The screening aimed to gauge audience interest in this setup for an action film, particularly during cape-and-sword duels. According to Xavier Orsel, manager of L’Alcazar through the Ciné Zéphyr company, the technology also holds particular appeal for auteur cinema, thanks to the contrast and level of detail offered by the screen.

Beyond its technical setup, L’Alcazar keeps a diverse program, blending new releases, auteur cinema, screenings in dubbed (VF) or original-version-with-subtitles (VOST), timeless classics, film clubs, and a mix of meetups and debates. The cinema is also classified as Art and Essay and runs education-in-cinema initiatives with schools and community centers, notably through the Alka-GenZ program aimed at under-26s.

This international recognition confirms L’Alcazar's place among Asnières-sur-Seine's notable cultural facilities. Already known for its château à découvrir lors de certains événements or for les ateliers Louis Vuitton, the town now also relies on this renovated cinema to enrich its cultural offering.
