The true story of the long-term investigation into the danger of green algae is the fascinating tale of Pierre Jolivet's new film, adapted from the comic strip of the same name. The film is broadcast on television this Tuesday, January 23.

Following her investigation into killer green algae in Brittany, journalist Inès Léraud has produced a comic strip, Les algues vertes - l'histoire interdite, illustrated by Pierre Van Hove. Les Algues Vertes, the new film by Pierre Jolivet, is the adaptation, broadcast this Tuesday, January 23 at 10:40 pm on Canal+.

Les Algues Vertes trailer

These famous green algae can be found in Brittany, full ofH2S, a gas that is fatal if you are exposed to it for even a few dozen seconds. Inès Léraud, a seasoned journalist brilliantly played by Céline Sallette (who, after Rouge in 2021, seems to love the role of whistle-blower), investigates these algae found en masse on the coast, and already responsible for several deaths. How did they become deadly, and why is there such a lack of public awareness of the danger they represent? To find the answer, she has to become a true whistle-blower, and smash an entire system to smithereens.

Because yes, the origin of this poison is to be found in local agriculture. And to undermine this system is to alienate the entire region, which lives off the land and has a farmer in every family. In fact, the secret is well kept, and no one wants to stick their necks out. From then on, Inès Léraud's investigation becomes fascinating, because at the very end of the thread she pulls, there is obviously a political problem, which is allowed to proliferate so as not to lose its place in capitalist globalization.

Through this process, Jolivet, like Léraud during his investigation, shows the absurdity of a situation that nobody wants to assume, and the enormity of the "official versions". It's a heavy, tragic story, well worth telling, and a must-see. A fabulous drama.
