On November 3, Wakanim users will see their subscriptions permanently suspended. The streaming platform specializing in simulcasts is closing its doors, after 14 years in business.

The end for Wakanim! Competition from Crunchyroll has been too much for the Japanim-dedicated streaming platform, one year after its merger with its direct competitor. On November 3, users of the platform will no longer be able to access Wakanim services, and their bank accounts will no longer be debited. Following the closures of Salto and Starzplay, this is yet another blow to the streaming sector.

Founded in 2009, Wakanim achieved its success by broadcasting anime in France simultaneously with their Japanese counterparts. It was a revolution for anime fans, who until then could only turn to pirating to get their series at the same time as the Japanese. Attack of the Titans, Demon Slayer, Sword Art Online... There were many works in the catalog. But now, the leader in simulcasts and manga adaptations is Crunchyroll. The platform is now the only one specializing in manga available in France.
