Solène Marchand, a divorced mother and gallery owner, accompanies her daughter to Coachella after her ex-husband drops out. On site, she runs into Hayes Campbell, a young singer with the band August Moon. Their meeting launches a romance laid bare to the public gaze, to social media, and to the pressures of fame.
Adapted from Robinne Lee's 2017 novel, The Idea of You fits squarely in contemporary romance. The film follows a relationship defined by an age gap, fame, and media scrutiny, with a narrative centered on Solène and on how this romance upends her day-to-day life.
Michael Showalter, renowned for The Big Sick and Hello, My Name Is Doris, directs here with Anne Hathaway in the lead as Solène and Nicholas Galitzine as Hayes Campbell. Ella Rubin, Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo, and Perry Mattfeld round out the cast.
The trailer for L’Idée d’être avec toi introduces the first meeting between Solène and Hayes, sets up the musical backdrop of August Moon, and teases the tensions sparked by a romance that audiences are watching closely.
