A political disappearance upends a Brazilian family in I’m Still Here, scheduled to air on Arte. Walter Salles adapts the account by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, son of former congressman Rubens Paiva, starring Fernanda Torres, Selton Mello and Fernanda Montenegro.
In Rio in 1971, men from the military regime take Rubens away for questioning. Eunice is left with their five children, not knowing where her husband is being held. The search for information becomes a fight to have what happened to him acknowledged.
In the press kit, Salles explains that he spent time at the Paiva family home as a teenager. The filmmaker shot on 35mm and Super 8, in particular to recapture the texture of home movies. Fernanda Torres and her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, play Eunice at two different ages; Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega wrote the screenplay.
The film won the Best Screenplay award at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama for Fernanda Torres, and then the Oscar for Best International Feature Film in 2025.
