Created, directed and starring Nathan Fielder, The Rehearsal series blends experimentalcomedy and the mise en abyme of everyday life in a resolutely original format. The initial idea is based on an intriguing promise: to allow strangers to re-enact key moments in their lives, with the help of actors, meticulously recreated sets and scenarios devised to cover every eventuality. This approach transforms reality into theater, where every emotion, every decision, can be rehearsed, anticipated and even corrected.
After an acclaimed first season, this second batch of episodes explores broader issues. Far from limiting himself to individual accompaniment, Nathan Fielder now uses his device to question universal issues, broadening the scope of his project.
The Rehearsal will be broadcast on Max from April 21, 2025.
Synopsis: In a world where nothing ever seems to work out as you'd hoped, Nathan Fielder gives people the chance to rehearse their own lives.
The Rehearsal should be of particular interest to fans of atypical formats, fond of narrative experiments that shake up the classic codes of TV comedy. The program is aimed at an audience sensitive to social criticism, behavioral psychology and the excesses of the quest for control in our modern lives. Fans of series like How To with John Wilson or films like Synecdoche, New York, which play with the boundary between fiction and reality, come to mind.
On the other hand, viewers looking for a linear narrative or traditional humor may find the series' deliberately absurd and introspective tone disconcerting. The constant ambiguity between documentary authenticity and orchestrated staging is both the strength and the uniqueness of this creation.
With season 2, The Rehearsal continues its exploration of human behavior, blending absurdist comedy, social experiment and existential analysis. Thanks to its original concept and Nathan Fielder's methodical approach, the series has established itself as a singular work in its own right on the television landscape. A proposition that will not leave indifferent an audience in search of daring television experiences.
