Adieu Monsieur Haffmann, a historical drama directed by Fred Cavayé, lands on Netflix on October 14, 2026. After a theatrical release in 2022, the film teams up Daniel Auteuil, Gilles Lellouche and Sara Giraudeau in an adaptation of Jean-Philippe Daguerre's play.
In Paris in 1941, Jewish jeweler Joseph Haffmann races to get his family out as the Nazis tighten their grip. When leaving the city proves impossible, he seeks shelter in the basement of his shop, having temporarily entrusted the business to his employee, François Mercier.
François now lives in the apartment above the jewelry shop with his wife Blanche. The deal he struck with his former boss is slowly turning into a relationship built on dependence, while the Occupation and the ambitions of the shop’s new occupant upend the dynamics among the three characters.
Adieu Monsieur Haffmann adapts the play written and directed by Jean-Philippe Daguerre. Premiered in 2016, the work notably won four Molières in 2018 and enjoyed a lengthy run at the Théâtre Tristan Bernard.
Fred Cavayé co-writes the screenplay with Sarah Kaminsky and reunites with Gilles Lellouche, a collaboration he’s already explored in several films. Daniel Auteuil takes on the role of the jeweler, while Sara Giraudeau portrays Blanche Mercier.
The shoot, halted by the Covid-19 pandemic, pushed the team to rethink several scenes. The adaptation preserves the play’s tight structure while grounding more of the story in Occupied Paris.
