Raoul Peck returns to Cannes 2025 with his documentary Orwell: 2+2=5, in the Cannes Première selection.

Raoul Peck is undoubtedly one of the most talented documentary directors of his time. After Lumumba, mort d'un prophète (about Patrice Lumumba), I Am Not Your Negro (which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Film in 2017) and Ernest Cole, photographe (presented at Cannes last year), he's back on the Croisette with a new documentary.

In Orwell: 2+2=5, presented in the Cannes Première selection at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Raoul Peck revisits the life and work of George Orwell, author of 1984 and Animal Farm.

"The Haitian filmmaker returns with a documentary based on the figure of George Orwell, whose existence, destiny and all-too-brief life he recounts, along with the strength and relevance of his ideas and anticipations of what societies will become if we're not careful. It was the '30s and '40s, we weren't very careful, and we're not very far from it; that's the thesis of this film," explained Thierry Frémaux, general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, at the press conference.

Where and when can you see Orwell: 2+2=5 in France?

Orwell: 2+2=5 will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.

Synopsis: A documentary about the visionary author George Orwell.
