Brie Larson, who won an Oscar in 2016 for Room, delivers a dynamic performance as Carol Danvers — a half-human, half-Kree soldier who has lost her memory and is on a quest to discover her true identity. The heroine breaks free from traditional feminist clichés to forge her own path, standing independent from patriarchal norms. The film also carries a potent message, touching on themes like the plight of refugees and the importance of accepting differences.
We particularly enjoy Larson’s compelling portrayal, even if she takes a moment to settle into the role at the start. The film’s sharp humor hits just right, sprinkled with colorful characters, such as Samuel L. Jackson in a hilarious, younger version of Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., adding energy and levity. Special mention goes to Ben Mendelsohn’s performance as Talos, the Skrull leader, who surprisingly manages to make us love the character.
