The Marvelous Mornings, Avril Besson's debut feature, lands in cinemas on July 29, 2026. Presented in Special Screenings at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, this romantic comedy brings together India Hair, Raya Martigny and Éric Cantona for a coming-of-age tale of grief, chance encounters and the pursuit of freedom.
Charlie has just lost her grandmother and sets off on the road, driving her Twingo with a crate of disco vinyls bequeathed to a wine merchant in the south of France. This impromptu journey takes her to a nearly deserted seaside town, where the records stir the memories of Titou, a dreamy wine seller, as her encounter with Marina opens the door to a new beginning.
Directed by Avril Besson, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Pauline Baduel, Les Matins merveilleux is the feature‑length adaptation of her short Queen Size, conceived to bring to life the on‑screen chemistry between India Hair and Raya Martigny — even before the project secured funding.
The cast brings together India Hair, Raya Martigny, Éric Cantona, Mathias Minne and Fanny Sidney. In the film, Cantona takes on a against-type role, that of a solitary wine-shop owner and disco enthusiast, far from his usual on-screen image.
The trailer presents a luminous film, propelled by disco vinyls that accompany Charlie's journey. Against Mediterranean landscapes, chance encounters and a budding romance, the movie appears to favor mood, quietness, and suspended moments over spectacular twists.
Les Matins merveilleux caters to fans of comedies, romances, and independent French cinema. Viewers looking for an intimate story about grief, love, and rebuilding will get their first glimpse of Avril Besson’s debut feature when it premieres in theaters.
