Cédric Klapisch's new film, La Venue de l'Avenir, will be unveiled out of competition at the Cannes Festival 2025.

The traditional Cannes Film Festival press conference on Thursday, April 10 revealed much of the official selection: the films vying for the Palme d'Or, the Un Certain Regard selection, the midnight screenings, the special screenings and also the films that will be screened out of competition.

Such is the case with La Venue de l'Avenir, the new film by Cédric Klapisch, which will be previewed at the 78th edition of the festival. The film features a first-rate cast: Vincent Macaigne, Julia Piaton, Abraham Wepler, Zinedine Soualem, Cécile de France, Vassili Schneider, Paul Kircher, Suzanne Lindon, Sara Giraudeau and François Berléand.

"Cédric Klapisch has been one of France's leading directors for several decades, and this is the first time he will be presenting one of his works in the official selection. As the schedule has allowed, we are delighted to welcome him," declared Thierry Frémaux at the press conference.

Where and when can you see La Venue de l'Avenir in France?

La Venue de l'Avenir will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 and in cinemas from May 22, 2025.

Synopsis: Today, in the year 2024, some 30 people from the same family learn that they are to inherit a house that has been abandoned for years. Four of them - Seb, Abdel, Céline and Guy - are tasked with taking stock of the property. These distant "cousins" discover hidden treasures in this old house. They find themselves on the trail of a mysterious Adèle, who left her native Normandy at the age of 20. This Adèle finds herself in Paris in 1895, at a time when the city is in the midst of an industrial and cultural revolution. For the four cousins, this introspective journey into their genealogy will lead them to discover that very special moment at the end of the 19th century, when photography was being invented and Impressionism was being born. This face-to-face encounter between the two eras 2024 and 1895 will challenge their present and their ideals, and tell the story of : The coming of the future.
